This site listed several roles that the president has to maintain for the American citizens. some of these roles include things like Chief of State, and Chief Executive. some things he does in those roles are maintaining Peace and awarding medals for tasks of bravery.
This site explained the Presidents duties and powers he holds. for example he can veto a bill that the Senate or House of Representatives deems necessary. It also stated the President is Chief of Government.

This article is a little biased but has good info on Obama who is a crisis President. it talks about how he should handle the crisis in the Middle East and North Africa. It also goes in depth on how and what his role is to the American People and the American economy.
